Blog Post 6: English Language Challenges

It's amazing how time goes so fast, I'm finishing this level of English and it passed very quickly. I think it's a little difficult to say about my general experience learning English at the university, because due to the pandemic I did the first level completely online, and this semester we had a few face-to-face English classes, but then we returned to the online modality. Definitively, the online experience is more difficult than learning the language in face to face, when having online classes it is more difficult to concentrate because of the distractions of the house or the bad connection. In contrast, from the experience with the face-to-face classes this year, I feel that I learned much more than last year, I also feel more involved with the course, and I had a lot of fun. With respect to the use of blogs, I consider it an innovative strategy to evaluate knowledge, since it differs from the typical classroom test with paper and pencil answering questions. I

Post 5: Changes to my study program

I really feel that I love my career, in general I really like everything, and I feel very motivated. However, I think we must be conscious of some things that could be better. To start, I think that the general curriculum is very interesting and well planned. But I think that in the first two years of the career they should implement more subjects related to archaeology and physical anthropology, since most of the subjects that we see these years are related to social anthropology. Sometimes I feel that the workload is quite heavy in terms of content because we have to learn a lot of different things in different areas of anthropology. However, probably because the first year of studies was online, it has been quite easy for me to carry the workload until now, let's hope they continue to be like this for the rest of the career. With respect to the infrastructure of the faculty I think that in some ways it is deficient, for example the lack of places to eat and food options, b

Post 4: Time travel to the past

Being able to travel back in time sounds like something that would happen in a movie or a science fiction book, so I guess I've never really stopped to think seriously about it. However, I think I would prefer to travel back in time for now. It is really interesting to me the idea of traveling far into the past and being able to see live the historical events that I have read about in history books. To be part of the first ships and ocean voyages, to see the French revolution or the independence of Chile. However, I think what I would be most interested in seeing in my trip to the past would be those events that are not documented in history, I would like to see how the first humans lived in Latin America before the arrival of the Europeans, to see the fauna and flora, how the landscapes have changed. It is a very nice idea to be able to live an experience like this, to be part of historical events that are not very famous in order to understand them better, and in this way under

Blog 3: My Dream Job

I am not really sure what I would like to work in the future, because anthropology is a new field for me. Each time I am learning more and more new dimensions of the career and new job possibilities are opening to me. However, for now I think I have a preference for archaeological work. I imagine myself in the future traveling to different places, working in the field and discovering objects that will allow me to understand and rewrite history. I am studying in my second year of anthropology, and from the third year of studies the university allows us to specialize in one area of anthropology, which can be: social, physical and archaeology. From that, next year I could enter the specialization of archaeology, and in this way, acquire the necessary abilities to be able to work. With respect to the salary, I would like to have enough to live quietly and save for travel. I am not really interested in having great luxuries or a life full of material things, I just want to be happy with

Blog 2: The Best Holiday

I consider that my best holiday was last summer, specifically in February 2022. On that occasion, I went to Lake Rapel to camp with my cousin, my aunt and a family friend for five days. We enjoyed swimming in the lake, walking around the campsite, taking pictures, playing cards and volleyball. However, most of all, we just rested.  This holidays was a really important experience for me, because I was able to connect with my family, with nature, and mainly with myself. I really managed to recharge my batteries after a year that was a little complicated. Also, for the first time in my life I had reiki, a very interesting experience, especially being in the middle of such beautiful landscapes. I also met a person that I now consider a great friend, I learned a lot from her and her life which is really inspiring, and we managed to connect super fast because we have similar interests.  Finally, what made this vacation trip end perfectly was that for the first time I saw a shooting star on t

Blog 1: A country you would like to visit

Definitively I would like to visit Mexico. I believe I've had this idea for about 4 years, so I am really interest and exited with the opportunity to travel to this country someday.  I think what interests me most about Mexico is its culture, mainly the traditions relad to "Day of the Dead", because this day is celebrated in a very different way than in Chile. In addition to this, Mexico has beautiful landscapes such as beaches and cenotes, I really like the places nearby water as sea, river, or lake for example, these places are truly relaxing. Finally, another reason what I would like to visit Mexico is because of its pre-Columbian history. Human groups such as the Aztecs and Mayas settled in this territory, and there are remains of them, such as pyramids.  I know little about Mexico, mainly because of movies, series or generalities that are said about the country, so if I get to go to Mexico, I would like to try with the least amount of prejudice to learn as much a

A subject I enjoy studying

Astronomy is one of my favorite subjects to study, this is a science that studies the celestial bodies of the universe such as planets, satellites, comets and asteroids. It is also interested in interstellar matter such as stars, nebulae, galaxies and dark matter. Perhaps one of the most interesting topics studied is related to extraterrestrial life. In short, astronomy is the science of the physical universe at the macro level that studies the events that occur in it. Since I was very young, I had always liked mathematics and when I entered high school, they started to teach us Physics. From the first moment I was fascinated with the physical explanations about how the world worked, but unfortunately at school we never got to pass subjects related to astronomy. So, in the summers, due to my enchantment with physics, I started to research and learn a lot about astronomy, until in the summer of 2017 I took a "Planetary Sciences" course. From that I fell in love with the su
